Every calculator on this site applies a published rule to the numbers you type in. The result is an estimate of what that rule produces. It is not a quotation, not a tax ruling and not legal advice, and nobody is bound by it — not the shop, not the hotel, not the tax office and not us.
Rules differ locally and change on fixed dates
Lodging tax is set by each municipality. Shop practice for tax-free processing varies between retailers. Rail fares and pass conditions differ by operator, and several rules covered here change on specific dates in 2026 and 2027. Each page shows which rule it applied and when its sources were last read; if your date sits near a changeover, check both sides.
Health, medicines and immigration
Where this site touches medicines, it describes import procedure only — whether a permit is required and how it is obtained. It does not say whether a medicine is suitable for you, does not suggest alternatives, and is not a substitute for advice from a doctor or pharmacist. Whether a specific substance may enter Japan is a decision for the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and for Japan Customs.
Similarly, anything about entry, visas or length of stay describes published requirements. Admission to Japan is decided by an immigration officer at the border, and no website can promise an outcome.
